Your VA Certificate of Eligibility, explained

A Certificate of Eligibility (COE) shows a lender that you qualify for a VA home loan. You'll need one to use your VA benefit.

Who may be eligible

  • Veterans who meet service requirements
  • Active-duty service members
  • National Guard and Reserve members who meet service requirements
  • Some surviving spouses

How to get your COE

The easiest way is to let us request it. We can often get it online in minutes. You can also request it yourself through the VA.

What you may need

  • Veterans: your DD-214
  • Active duty: a statement of service signed by your commander
  • Guard and Reserve: proof of service, such as points statements or a DD-214
  • Surviving spouses: additional VA forms

Frequently asked questions

Can I use my VA benefit more than once?
Yes. Your entitlement can often be restored or reused.
Does the COE mean I'm approved?
